The Best Professional Hair Color Lines
With so many hair color lines on the market it can be hard to know which one to choose. Deciding which color line to carry is a big decision that shouldn't be made lightly. First you'll have to decide what kind of relationship you'll want to have with the company that makes your color line. Some hair color brands assign reps that will come into your salon to train your staff on how to use their product and will offer classes geared towards continued education. This rep will also be your go-to person when it's time to make orders or if you're having any troubles with their color line. Other companies are less hands on which sits better with some salon owners, plus these products tend to be cheaper as you're not paying extra for salon support.
Another important thing to keep in mind when choosing a color line is what you will be using it for most. Is good grey coverage the most important thing for you? Maybe you're looking for a color line that's more translucent and has a strong semi-permanent line. Read below to discover which hair color line will work best for you and your salon.
1. Wella Koleston Perfect Hair Color
I love Wella! This color line just keeps getting better. They have some of the widest selections of shades to choose from which makes formulating a breeze and they're salon support is by far some of the best. I also love their semi-permanent line and the recent introduction of they're re-lights line which acts as their beautiful, shiny toners.
The only complaints I've heard about this color line is that the grey coverage can sometimes be tricky and beware that their reds are extremely bright and powerful, while they're neutrals tend to be pretty deep and sometimes read darker than the level stated. Knowing these things is half the battle and when adjustments are made, this is one of my favorite color lines on the market.
2. Elgon Moda & Styling Cosmetic Hair Color
Elgon is an Italian color line that is a favorite for it's grey coverage. The Elgon color tube is also one of the largest on the market, weighing in at 4.25 ounces, it's over double the amount of product compared to other color lines which makes it more affordable.
A big benefit of Elgon is that it carries very low ammonia content, making it gentle on the hair and leaving the cuticle smooth and shiny. The line carries a 0/0 which is an ammonia booster and can be added to any formula as needed. Elgon has 74 shades to choose from and can be ordered online.
3. Matrix SoColor Permanent Cream Hair Color
This color line is a favorite among professional stylists. Matrix Socolor offers rich, radiant tones that pack tons of shine. Matrix SoColor is excellent for grey coverage and their shades tend to be vibrant and long-lasting, making it a great option for colorists that do a lot of red hair color.
Matrix has an extensive education network and provides continuous business and in-salon support.
4. Rusk DeepShine Pure Pigments Conditioning Cream
Rusk is loved for offering lot's of shine, great grey coverage, and it comes in an economically friendly 3.4oz tube. Rusk uses nano technology to drive micro-fine pigments into it's conditioning cream color. This makes Rusk hair color extremely long lasting and allows for the use of lower volumes of developer which leaves the hair healthy and shiny. The color line is complimented by a wide range of professional styling products and Rusk offers great classes and salon support.
